Electric car registrations Switzerland — as of August 2026

Passenger cars with a charging port · Jan–Aug 2026 · data as of 2026-08-31

All figures from the original auto-schweiz Excel files, analysed by us. The comparison is Jan–Aug 2026 against the same period of 2025 — not against the previous month, which removes seasonality and late reporting. What counts is anything with a charging port: BEV, plug-in hybrids and range extenders.

Biggest losses

Only models with at least 50 registrations in the current period and a previous-year figure — on smaller numbers, percentages are noise.

How we calculate

The comparison runs period against the same period of the previous year. Models without previous-year registrations are marked «new» rather than with a misleading percentage. A negative monthly figure is a correcting entry: auto-schweiz revises previously reported registrations after the fact, and the statistics do not say why — a cancellation and a rebooking onto a different model name look identical in them. The annual figure is the corrected one. What these figures do not say: they measure how widespread a model is, not how good it is.
