Battery electric or plug-in hybrid: which is registered more often in Switzerland?

Battery electric, clearly. 37’226 of the 55’986 new registrations with a plug are battery electric — 66,5 per cent. Plug-in hybrids and range extenders account for 18’760, or 33,5 per cent. Measured against the whole passenger car market of 151’589 vehicles, that is 24,6 per cent battery electric and 12,4 per cent with a plug but not battery electric. Against the same period last year, one group changes by +22,7 per cent, the other by +17,4 per cent.

How this is calculated
Counted are new registrations of passenger cars with a plug. «Battery electric» is the drivetrain BEV; everything else in this analysis is a plug-in hybrid with a petrol or diesel engine, or a range extender. The share refers to the sum of both groups, the market share to all newly registered passenger cars in the same period — two different denominators, never mixed. Across the months the battery electric share ranges between 62,8 per cent in February and 71,6 per cent in August, a span of 8,8 percentage points.
