Charging in Switzerland
Charging stations and electric cars in Switzerland, by canton and municipality
For every municipality in Switzerland we show how many electric cars are registered there, how many public charging points are reported to the federal government and how busy they were in the last full week. The pages are ordered by canton.
Across Switzerland there are 12,4 electric cars per public charging point. In the week 19.–25.10.2026, a charging point was occupied 10,9 % of the time on average. 439 municipalities with more than 20 electric cars have no reported charging point; the canton pages list them.

Where the figures come from
- Electric cars: FSO, road vehicle stock by municipality, as of 2025, and new registrations 2025. Counted by the keeper’s address, so company cars are included. We do not show figures under 5.
- Charging points: SFOE, charging stations for electric cars (ich-tanke-strom.ch), daily export of 26.10.2026. The municipality follows from the coordinate and swisstopo’s municipal boundaries (swissBOUNDARIES3D).
- Occupancy: our own measurement from the SFOE status reports, every 3 minutes, week 19.–25.10.2026. The figures are openly available at /ladenetz-gemeinden.json.
- Electricity tariff: ElCom, tariffs reported by the distribution system operators, standard product, profile H5 (7’500 kWh a year, house with an electric car), excluding VAT.
What the figures do not say
- Private chargers in garages and at houses are not recorded centrally anywhere and are missing here. Most electric cars charge there.
- No reported charging point does not mean there is none: an operator who does not report its charger to the SFOE is missing from the file.
- Charging sessions are a lower bound. We count the change from free to occupied between two readings; a session shorter than three minutes is missed.
- Occupancy counts how often a charging point was reported as occupied. A car that stays parked after charging counts as occupied.
