Why this site carries a list of what it does not know
Most market overviews have a problem: they look complete. Every table filled, every figure set, no gap. That is rarely the state of the data and usually a decision to make the uncertain look like the certain.
Three examples from this site.
The TCS breakdown statistics do not exist. The search for Swiss-specific breakdown data per model ended at a cooperation with the ADAC whose last traceable model-level editions date from the years 2010 to 2013. Rather than sell a German figure as a Swiss one, the origin is stated alongside.
The TCS charging price comparison contains values from June 2023. It is the only systematic Swiss survey that could be found. Several current articles cite it without naming the survey date.
Nobody knows the number of public charging points exactly. Three sources give around 14’000, 15’200 and 20’000. All three are secondary sources. That is why no figure appears in the main text.
A gap that is named costs range. A gap that is filled costs trust.
On top of that come errors in the data itself. While building the outlook, the monthly series of the BMW iX3 showed 558 vehicles in June and zero before that. Checking the raw data showed: auto-schweiz only takes new models into their own row once they reach a certain volume, and books the accumulated figure into a single month. The annual total of 769 is correct, the month is not genuine June demand. Such places are now marked with an asterisk.
The use of this list is practical. Anyone who knows where the figures are thin also knows where to ask themselves: the canton about the vehicle tax, the dealer about the delivery date, the seller about the battery certificate. The register sits under «Method».
